Atle Eide appointed chair of Oceanbox.
Norwegian software company Oceanbox has appointed aquaculture veteran Atle Eide as its new chair as the business moves into what it describes as a growth phase.
Oceanbox develops self-service modelling and analysis tools for ocean currents, environmental conditions and emissions in coastal waters.
Eide has previously served as chief executive of Mowi, Hydro Seafood, Skretting Nordic and Kverneland Group, and was a senior partner at private equity firm HitecVision.
“We have all along aimed to bring in an independent chair. Atle Eide brings us strong competence, broad experience and, not least, professionalism in the governance of the company, which is now in the middle of a growth phase. At the same time he brings an energy and enthusiasm that matches the culture at Oceanbox. I am also pleased that continuity on the board is safeguarded by Lars Lydersen continuing as a board member,” said Oceanbox chief executive and founder Svenn Hanssen in a statement.
Eide said he sees significant potential for the company’s tools as the industry looks to new technical solutions and tighter environmental control.
“We all know that with the increased focus on submersible solutions and the great need to prevent the spread of lice and disease, the quality of sites and the conditions towards the ‘neighbour’ are the difference between good and less good earnings. For the aquaculture industry, which has its values in the sea, the tools from Oceanbox have a potential that it is inspiring to be part of developing,” Eide said.
Eide was elected chair at the company’s general meeting on 28 November and took part in his first board meeting in Tromsø on 3 December.
