Aquaticode signs deals to sort over 60 million salmon for Australis and AquaChile.

Aquaticode has signed agreements with two of Chile’s largest salmon producers, Australis and AquaChile, to expand the use of its AI-powered sorting system, SORTpro.

The system, launched 18 months ago, is now being used to sort more than 60 million fish across both companies. According to Aquaticode, the system enables early identification of gender and growth potential, and removes fish deemed unlikely to survive the seawater phase.

Australis reports reduced mortality and lower rates of early sexual maturation following the implementation of the system. The company had previously used gender-based sorting as part of its production strategy.

AquaChile, which has already used SORTpro to sort millions of fish, is integrating the system more widely into its operations. The company claims the expansion has improved biosecurity and predictability of growth rates, noting that males tend to grow around 20% faster than females, while separated females achieve a premium in growth performance.

Aquaticode CEO Stian Rognlid said the technology was gaining traction as producers seek to improve biological performance and resource efficiency.
