Chile: salmon exports rise 8% in value in Q1 2026

Chile shipped 260,533 tonnes of salmon and trout worth $1.99 billion in the first quarter of 2026, according to data from Chile’s National Customs Service. That compares to 260,533 tonnes valued at $1.838 billion in Q1 2025 — an 8.28% rise in value and 19.33% increase in volume year-on-year.

The United States remained Chile’s top export market, receiving 70,735 tonnes worth $706 million. Volume rose 19.04% and value 5.7% versus Q1 2025, when Chile sent 59,419 tonnes for $667 million — this despite ongoing tariff pressures.

China posted the sharpest growth of any market. Chile sent 16,161 tonnes worth $94 million to China in Q1 2026, up 155.76% in volume and 114.51% in value compared to 6,318 tonnes and $44 million a year earlier.

Brazil, Chile’s largest Latin American market, received 45,447 tonnes worth $261 million, up 22.3% in volume and 5.79% in value from Q1 2025.

Russia continued its downward trend. Exports fell to 8,779 tonnes worth $56 million — down 31.97% in volume and 39.69% in value versus the 12,905 tonnes and $94 million recorded in Q1 2025.

Japan also underperformed. Chile sent 55,467 tonnes worth $392 million, compared to 54,337 tonnes for $401 million a year earlier — a 2.18% drop in value despite a marginal 2.08% volume gain.

Mexico received 6,407 tonnes worth $63.3 million, up 36.55% in volume and 27.79% in value year-on-year.
