Norwegian aquaculture service company AQS has ordered four new service vessels from Salthammer Båtbyggeri, marking the largest single contract in the history of both companies.

The contract covers construction of four Coastern 28 zH vessels, to be built at the yard’s facility in Vestnes with hull production in Norway. The vessels are designed by Tomra Engineering.

The order follows two vessels already under construction for AQS at the same yard, with delivery scheduled during 2026.

Salthammer said the agreement provides a solid foundation for further development after a challenging period for the yard. AQS highlighted the benefits of series construction, including improved cost control, standardisation and technical optimisation.

The new vessels will feature fully electric propulsion, significant battery capacity and shore power capability, with flexibility for future fuel solutions.

AQS currently operates a fleet of 17 service vessels and employs around 200 people.
