Andfjord Salmon has completed its first sale of post-smolt salmon, transferring approximately 450,000 fish to Norwegian fish farmer Eidsfjord Sjøfarm.

The fish, produced at the company’s K1 pool at Kvalnes, had an average weight of 1.2 kilograms after pre-transfer fasting. The transfer was completed in four batches over the past week, with the company saying operational efficiency improved during each stage.

The sale forms part of a strategic partnership between Andfjord Salmon and Eidsfjord Sjøfarm, with the fish now stocked in sea pens in the Vesterålen region.

Andfjord Salmon said the post-smolt strategy, announced in February 2024, is intended to complement its production of harvest-size salmon by increasing biomass turnover and improving cash flow while making fuller use of production capacity.

The company retained around 290,000 fish in the K1 pool for grow-out to harvest size and expects harvesting to begin in the fourth quarter.

Andfjord Salmon is also producing fish in pools K0 and K3. As of 25 June, total standing biomass at its Kvalnes facility was 1,315 tonnes of live salmon following the sale of around 560 tonnes of post-smolt. The aggregated survival rate across production was 98.52%.

The company said the first production cycle achieved strong biological performance, with the post-smolt sale marking the first commercial milestone under its new production strategy.
