Aqua-Spark has appointed former BioMar executive Katherine Bryar as director of strategic partnerships as the aquaculture investment fund seeks to deepen collaboration across the seafood value chain.

Bryar previously served as global marketing director at BioMar and has held a range of leadership roles across the aquaculture sector.

In the newly created role, she will focus on strengthening relationships between farmers, technology providers, processors, investors and other industry stakeholders.

Aqua-Spark said the appointment comes as sustainable aquaculture enters what it described as a more demanding phase, requiring closer industry coordination and long-term investment discipline.

The Netherlands-based fund said it has spent the past 15 years investing in companies focused on improving the sustainability and efficiency of aquaculture production.

The company said more than 200 investment funds are now active in the sustainable aquaculture sector, compared with when Aqua-Spark launched as what it described as the first dedicated sustainable aquaculture impact investment fund.

“Katherine’s integrated approach and deep focus on relationships are deeply aligned with how we operate,” said Aqua-Spark co-founder Amy Novogratz.

Bryar said she was attracted by Aqua-Spark’s long-term focus on aquaculture operators and industry development.
