Builders Vision has taken a strategic minority General Partner stake in Hatch Blue, deepening a relationship between the two groups that began in 2017.

The deal gives Builders Vision a minority holding in Hatch Blue’s parent company. Financial terms were not disclosed. The investment moves Builders Vision from being a limited partner in Hatch Blue’s Blue Revolution Fund to a GP-level stakeholder, aligning it more closely with the management and long-term direction of the firm.

Hatch Blue positions itself as a specialist aquaculture investment platform, combining venture capital with advisory services and industry innovation programmes. The firm invests across the seafood value chain, with a focus on technologies and business models aimed at improving productivity, sustainability and resilience in farmed seafood systems. It is headquartered in Ireland and also operates in Norway, Germany and Singapore.

Builders Vision, founded by Lukas Walton, deploys capital across food and agriculture, energy and oceans, using a mix of grantmaking and market-rate investments. Its move at GP level represents a relatively uncommon structure in aquaculture, a sector that has historically attracted more project-level or asset-level investment than platform-level backing.

Aquaculture is valued at more than $366 billion globally and is widely regarded as the fastest-growing major food production system. Production is concentrated in markets including Norway and Chile, with increasing capital flows into feed, genetics, digital farming systems and land-based technologies in recent years.

Against this backdrop, Hatch Blue has sought to position itself as an integrated platform linking early-stage venture investments with industry advisory and ecosystem development. The company said the new capital will support the expansion of its global operations, including talent recruitment, portfolio management and institutional capacity.

“This investment reinforces that aquaculture is no longer an emerging niche, but a critical growth sector,” said Georg Baunach.

James Lindsay said Builders Vision intends to act as a strategic partner as Hatch Blue scales its activities in aquaculture.

The transaction comes amid continued consolidation among salmon producers and increased investor interest across the seafood value chain, signalling growing institutional attention on aquaculture as part of broader food system investment strategies.
