Gigante Salmon: 14,062 fish lost after operational incident

More than 14,000 salmon died at Gigante Salmon’s land-based farming facility at Lille Indre Rosøy in Rødøy on 1 April, according to local newspaper Avisa Nordland.

The newspaper reported that 14,062 fish were lost in the incident and that the cause was attributed to human error. The report said the situation was resolved within 24 hours.

There were approximately 2.2 million fish at the facility when the incident occurred, according to the report.

Gigante Salmon had not commented publicly on the incident at the time of publication.

The company recently reported first-quarter harvest volumes of 930 tonnes HOG and standing biomass of 2,700 tonnes at the end of March.
