Sjybol, the parent company of Lovundlaks, has agreed to acquire the Klubban smolt site in Rødøy municipality, in Norway, from Helgeland Smolt and its owners.

According to a press release, the site holds licences and permits with potential production capacity of up to 10 million large smolt.

Groundworks at the site were completed in autumn 2025. The new owner said project planning will begin shortly, with a final investment decision and potential construction start targeted for autumn 2026.

If developed as planned, first smolt deliveries could begin in 2029.

Jørgen Aakre, recently appointed managing director of Sjybol, said the investment would strengthen control over this part of the value chain and create regional economic activity.

Aakre previously served as CFO of Nova Sea and will act as group chief executive within the Lovundlaks system.

Lovundlaks is also a major shareholder in Utror, which is developing offshore fish farming projects.

To support the project, the company has appointed Tor-Arne Gransjøen as project and development manager. Gransjøen was previously managing director of Helgeland Smolt.
