This deal is just one part of a larger $190 million investment for the salmon producer.

Mowi-backed salmon producer Nova Sea has entered into a contract with leading Norwegian construction firm Consto for the erection of a new processing facility at Lovund in Nordland.

The deal valued at NOK 673 million ($64 million), was announced in a press release by Consto on Tuesday. This construction is part of a larger investment, totaling NOK 2 billion ($190 million) for the entire project.

“We are humbled and grateful for the trust Nova Sea has shown us in the process we have been through with them. An optimization process has been going on for six weeks. The competition was tough, and we are proud to have entered into a partnership with Nova Sea,” said Consto Project Development Manager Torgeir Ingebrigtsen.

The broader project is the largest single investment ever made in the history of the municipality.

Construction is scheduled to begin in April this year, with an expected completion by the end of 2025 or early 2026.

The company plans to more than double its processing capacity from 50,000 metric tons to as much as 125,000 tons with the new facility.

Tom Eirik Aasjord, CEO of Nova Sea, stated in the press release that the investment in Lovund is substantial. The new slaughterhouse aims to ensure superior product quality, enhanced fish welfare and health in the processing phase.

The facility will expand its processing capabilities to two fillet lines, creating more job opportunities. Aasjord highlighted that the existing slaughterhouse was becoming cramped, and the new facility will offer improved conditions for both the fish and the staff. He emphasized Nova Sea’s 50-year history of contributing to the development of local communities in Helgeland and expressed the company’s commitment to continue this positive impact for the next 50 years.

The project had previously been put on hold due to the ground rent tax but was recommenced in the autumn of 2023 as announced by Nova Sea.

With more than 1,250 employees across both Sweden and Norway, Consto is one of Scandinavia’s leading construction groups.

The largest single shareholder in Nova Sea is salmon giant Mowi, holding 49 percent.
