Blue Revolution Centre, a large-scale research station, has reported that approximately 13,500 farmed salmon escaped from a fish pen at the Kveitskjeret locality in Frøya, Trøndelag, following an incident earlier this week.

The company, co-owned by NMBU, Sintef Ocean, and Mowi, confirmed the escape after an initial assessment of the site, with the average weight of the escaped salmon recorded at 5.5 kg.

Mowi, which operates the site, has deployed recapture nets since the incident was discovered and has so far retrieved around 1,500 salmon. The Directorate of Fisheries has extended the recapture order until 30 September, focusing efforts on the surrounding waters near Sula and Mausund.

Recapture efforts are being conducted exclusively by licensed fishers contracted by the company. The Directorate of Fisheries is overseeing the response through its standard procedures for escape incidents.

The incident, while significant, is being managed according to established protocols, and the authorities have stated that further updates will follow as recovery efforts continue.
