Shinkei Systems has acquired a 16,000-square-foot fish processing facility in Tacoma, Washington, expanding the seafood robotics company’s footprint on the US West Coast.
The site, purchased from Seattle-area processor FATHOM Seafood, will operate as Shinkei’s “Seremoni Grade” plant and more than doubles the company’s processing capacity. The facility is expected to become operational this spring with a core workforce of more than 50 employees, with additional seasonal hires planned.
Shinkei Systems develops automation and quality-control technologies for seafood processing. The Tacoma facility will process fish sourced from fisheries in Alaska, Washington and California, initially focusing on black cod, with plans to expand into additional species later this year.
The plant will also serve as a test site for NERA, Shinkei’s AI-driven quality control platform. The system analyses biological markers in each fish in real time to generate objective quality assessments and projected shelf life, helping guide distribution decisions.
By bringing harvesting techniques, processing and quality analysis under one operation, the company aims to maintain end-to-end control of product quality as it expands supply to restaurant and retail customers.
