Scotland’s Sustainable Aquaculture Innovation Cluster Ltd (SAIC) is recruiting up to 12 independent experts for a new Science Panel, with a deadline of May 29.
The panel will advise SAIC’s board and help shape future R&D priorities across finfish, shellfish, and seaweed aquaculture. Members will serve two-year terms and meet at least twice per year, primarily online.
SAIC said it welcomes applicants from aquaculture science, applied technologies, and related disciplines. Academic affiliation is not required, and international candidates are encouraged.
Priority areas include fish health and welfare, genetics, virology, environmental science, shellfish and seaweed cultivation, IoT and sensor technologies, sustainability, and climate resilience.
Panel members will review project proposals, assess scientific quality and real-world impact, contribute to horizon scanning, and connect SAIC with national and international networks.
SAIC was established in 2014 as the Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre. It recently rebranded as the Sustainable Aquaculture Innovation Cluster Ltd. The organisation funds and facilitates collaborative R&D between businesses and researchers across Scotland’s aquaculture sector.
According to SAIC, £183.7 million has been spent on joint-funded Scottish salmon innovation projects since 2018.
Full application details are available on the SAIC website.
