Helgesen will be responsible for the company’s key salmon products.

Amerra Capital Management-backed byproducts firm Biomega, has appointed former GC Rieber Compact development engineer Ase-Lill Helgesen as its new product manager, the company announced on Thursday.

Biomega transforms fresh salmon byproducts into high value, food grade, hydrolyzed salmon proteins and oils for the premium food, pet food, health and nutrition sectors.

Helgesen will be responsible for the company’s key salmon products, and will operate out of its facilities in Skaganeset, Norway, and Hirtshals, Denmark.

At GC Rieber Compact, where she has worked since 2015, Helgesen was involved in the R&D of food products dedicated to emergency relief.

The veteran manager has also held roles at Reinertsen and Norgesmøllene and brings more than 20 years of experience, backed by a Master of Engineering in Chemistry and biotechnology from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.

In 2017, the Biomega was acquired by New York-based agribusiness asset manager Amerra Capital Management.

The company has since invested heavily to increase production capacity and expand in the human health and nutrition market.

In Feburary, Biomega unveiled its new biorefinery in Hirtshals, Denmark.

The investment includes a purpose-built site to expand production capacity and support the company’s plans to grow its new salmon peptide business.
