Norwegian seafood by-products company Scanbio has appointed former Måsøval chief executive Helge Kvalvik as its new CEO, the company said on Tuesday.

Kvalvik, who stepped down from salmon farmer Måsøval after around three and a half years in the role, will take up his new position on July 1.

“With his experience, knowledge of the seafood industry and broader leadership expertise, Helge has an ideal background for the role,” Scanbio chairman Tor Vikenes said in a statement.

Before joining Måsøval, Kvalvik held senior roles in the maritime sector, including as chief executive of BOA Offshore.

Scanbio collects, processes and recycles by-products and waste from the aquaculture and seafood industries. Headquartered in Trondheim, the company operates along the Norwegian coast and also has operations in Denmark, Scotland and Iceland.

The company processes raw material from across the North Sea basin into products including oils and proteins using its network of vessels, tank facilities and two processing plants.

“Scanbio is an exciting company carrying out an important task for the aquaculture industry along the coast,” Kvalvik said. “With ambitious owners, skilled employees and a strong platform for further development, I see significant opportunities ahead.”

The appointment was announced in a company statement.
