Norway exported 35,394 tonnes of trout worth NOK 3.2 billion (€284.8 million) during the first half of 2026, with both volume and value declining from the same period last year, according to new figures from the Norwegian Seafood Council.

Export value fell by NOK 279 million (€24.8 million), or 8 percent, while export volumes declined 10 percent year-on-year.

The United States, Poland and Ukraine were the largest markets for Norwegian trout during the first six months of the year.

Poland recorded the strongest growth, with export value rising by NOK 246 million (€21.9 million), or 96 percent, compared with the first half of 2025. Export volumes to the country increased 88 percent to 6,088 tonnes.

“The decline in trout volumes is due to a shift in production, away from trout and towards salmon. Producers are free to choose whether they want to produce salmon or trout,” said eafood analyst at the Norwegian Seafood Council, Paul T. Aandahl.
