Scotland’s new agriculture, marine and islands minister, Jim Fairlie, will open Aquaculture UK in Glasgow on June 16, before launching the show’s conference programme in the Keynote Theatre.

Fairlie is expected to outline the Scottish Government’s commitment to finfish and shellfish farming and the supply chains they support. The two-day event runs June 16–17 at the Scottish Event Campus on the River Clyde.

The exhibition has more than 250 exhibitors from over 20 countries, including inaugural national pavilions from Norway and Ireland. Organiser Diversified Communications is predicting record attendance following the show’s move from its former Aviemore venue.

Scotland’s chief scientific advisor for marine, Mark Inall, will address improvements to the Scottish Environment Protection Agency’s sea lice regulatory framework. Helge Adne Lien, managing director of DNB Bank, will offer a banker’s view on risks and opportunities for Scotland’s salmon farmers.

Day two opens with the Norway-Scotland Breakfast Briefing at 8.15am, bringing together Innovation Norway and Salmon Scotland to explore collaboration between the two industries. A later panel will address rising fuel costs and margin management strategies.

Registration for individual sessions, including the Norway-Scotland Breakfast Briefing, is open via the event website.
