Two crew members were injured following an explosion aboard the workboat “Yngve”, owned by Finnsnes Dykk & Anleggservice, on Tuesday evening.
According to local newspaper Nordlys, the vessel began taking on water after the explosion and later developed a heavy list.
One of the injured crew members was transported to the University Hospital of North Norway with minor injuries. Three people were onboard at the time of the incident.
The vessel was operating at the Rogndalen fish farming site, operated by Sjurelv Fiskeoppdrett.
Managing director Jørn Tore Fjellstad told Nordlys that the vessel was pulled ashore at Blåmannsvika at around 03:00 on Wednesday morning following an overnight salvage operation.
“The current status is that the boat is lying ashore and being secured by a wheel loader,” Fjellstad said. “Work has continued through the night and we now have better control, but not full control. There is still some smoke coming from the vessel.”
He added that the vessel remained unstable as the tide was rising and that additional rescue equipment had been requested in coordination with the Norwegian Coastal Administration and emergency services.
The cause of the explosion was not immediately known.
The “Yngve” was built by Moen Marin and was described as the first vessel of its type when delivered.
