Hydroniq Coolers has secured a contract from Norwegian shipbuilder Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted to supply a marine cooling system for a new live fish carrier being built for North Salmon Service.

The Norway-based company will deliver a complete hull-integrated “Rack” seawater cooling system for the vessel, which is based on the HAV 595 wellboat design.

According to Hydroniq Coolers, the cooling system is installed below the main engine room, freeing up additional engine room space. The company said the system includes frequency-operated seawater pumps, heat recovery functionality and chilled water elements intended to reduce energy consumption and maintenance requirements.

The system can also be serviced without dry-docking, with coolers designed to be extracted from below the engine room while the vessel remains at sea.

Hydroniq Coolers will manufacture and assemble the system at its facility on Ellingsøy outside Ålesund. The company did not disclose the value of the contract.

North Salmon Service’s newbuild vessel will feature hybrid propulsion, including variable-speed generator sets, DC distribution and a battery pack designed to reduce fuel consumption and support future alternative energy solutions.

The vessel is under construction at Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted, with delivery scheduled for 2027.
