Mowi has stocked the first salmon at its new Stulaigh South farm off South Uist in Scotland’s Western Isles.

The site received planning consent in December 2024 and was stocked with fish at the end of May across six pens, each with a circumference of 200 metres.

Stulaigh South has a maximum permitted biomass of 3,000 tonnes and will add to Mowi’s production capacity in the Western Isles.

The farm is located in a high-energy marine environment characterised by strong currents and high water exchange. Mowi said the conditions are expected to support fish health and growth.

Seven employees will work at the site, including three apprentices.
