Three injured in explosion at Fóðurblandan feed plant in Reykjavík.

Three people were hospitalised following an explosion at Fóðurblandan’s feed production facility in Korngarðar, Reykjavík, on Friday morning.

The blast occurred at approximately 07:30 local time, according to Icelandic broadcaster RÚV. Police described the incident as a serious workplace accident. One of the injured is reported to be in critical condition.

The explosion caused significant structural damage to the building. RÚV reporter Haukur Holm, speaking from the scene, said cladding had been blown off across a large section of the structure.

Fire and police units were deployed in force. Emergency services spent several hours accounting for employees who had been inside and in the vicinity of the facility at the time of the incident. Authorities have asked the public to avoid the area.

Fóðurblandan is one of Iceland’s established producers of compound feed and agricultural products. The Korngarðar site serves as a primary production facility for the company.

The cause of the explosion has not been confirmed. Police have not released further details on the condition of the injured beyond the initial assessment.
