Cooke Aquaculture subsidiary Cold Ocean Salmon has applied to amend the licence for a farming site in Newfoundland and Labrador to allow the production of Atlantic salmon.

According to public notices published by the company, the proposed changes would see the Pomley Cove site in Bay d’Espoir converted from steelhead trout production to a salmon nursery operation.

The application includes plans to install ten 150-metre cages, replacing the site’s existing 70-metre cage system. The farm boundary would remain unchanged.

If approved, the site would have capacity for up to 820,000 juvenile salmon.

The proposed amendment is subject to a public consultation process, with comments accepted until 21 June.

Cold Ocean Salmon operates aquaculture sites in Newfoundland and Labrador and is part of the Cooke group of companies.
