Insurance broker Lockton has appointed Didrik Smith as Global Practice Leader for Aquaculture, effective from August.

Smith joins from Aon, where he advised salmon farming companies across major aquaculture markets. He previously worked at Marsh, specialising in insurance, risk management and risk transfer for aquaculture clients.

The company said the appointment will make Lockton Norway the centre of its global aquaculture business.

"I am delighted to be joining the team in Norway to lead this practice on a global scale," Smith said.

"The pace of change is creating new opportunities for advisers to adapt and innovate, and we're well positioned to support clients across international markets with sharper risk insight and genuinely forward-looking solutions."

Chief executive Øyvind Larsen said the appointment reflected the company's ambitions in aquaculture insurance.

"Smith's hire underlines our ambitions to challenge established thinking and cement Norway's position at the heart of international aquaculture broking," he said.

Lockton said the appointment follows a series of senior hires across its Nordic operations during the past year, including Frode Stakston as chief operating officer, Stein Halstensen as Biological Risk Specialist, Dag Sandberg as Client Executive and Bård Poulsson as International Marine Lead.
