Norwegian salmon biomass: June volume reaches seasonal record

Norwegian salmon biomass reached approximately 869,000 tonnes in June, up 1.5 percent year on year and the highest level recorded for the month, according to an analysis by Pareto Securities based on Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries data.
Biomass production increased 6 percent despite harvest volumes rising 13 percent, supported by record-low mortality. Feed consumption was up 2 percent, while the number of fish in the sea fell 1.7 percent and average weight increased 3.2 percent.
Pareto said the figures indicated potential upside to harvest volumes but further downside risk for salmon price forecasts, potentially delaying an expected price recovery.
Biomass rose strongly in central and northern production areas but declined 9.8 percent across areas five to seven and 23 percent in areas one and two in southern Norway.
